
Emily Swain
Ballet Mistress

Miss Emily began her ballet training at the age of five with Eastern Connecticut Ballet under the direction of Gloria Govrin. During her time there she performed in numerous productions including The Nutcracker, Carnival of the Animals, Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, George Balanchine’s Raymonda, and Who Cares?. In 2013, she was named Connecticut’s Shoreline Top Talent in Dance.
After graduating high school, Miss Emily continued her classical ballet training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) under the instruction of Susan Jaffe. While at UNCSA she performed in classical ballets including Stars and Stripes, Raymonda, Coppélia, Don Quixote, and Paquita. She also performed in contemporary works through the Emerging Choreographers Showcase in collaboration with Wayne McGregor’s company, Random Dance.
Miss Emily holds a BFA in Ballet from UNCSA and brings a strong focus on classical technique, artistry, and musicality to Astra Studio’s ballet program.
Outside the studio, Miss Emily enjoys spending time with her dog, Bella, and is excited to welcome her first baby soon.
