What age can my child start dance?
Children can begin dance classes at Astra Studio as early as age 2.5 through our preschool and early childhood programs. These classes introduce young dancers to movement, music, coordination, and classroom structure in a fun and supportive environment.
Dance is truly for all ages, and it’s never too late to start. Many students begin their dance journey in elementary school or even later and quickly develop confidence, skills, and a love for performing.
Our programs are designed to help dancers grow at every stage, whether they are taking their very first class or continuing their training as they progress.
How much does it cost?
• Tuition is based on an annual rate, charged monthly.
• Tuition is based on an annual rate and divided into monthly payments. For the 2026–2027 season, a one-hour class starts at $73 per month. Tuition rates are adjusted for dancers taking multiple classes.
• There is an annual registration fee of $45 per student ($60 per family).
• Costumes for the Spring Recital Showcase are additional.
• Winter Holiday Showcase costumes are rented and returned after the performance.
What do I have to wear?
Dancewear varies by class. Dancers do not need expensive specialty dancewear to get started. Ballet Technique requires a black leotard, pink tights, and hair secured in a bun. For most other classes, dancers may wear comfortable, fitted dancewear that allows instructors to clearly see alignment and movement. Hip Hop dancers may wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, or dancewear.
Appropriate dance shoes vary by class. Specific dress code and shoe requirements are provided at registration.
Where do I find dance shoes?

Can I sit and watch my dancer in class?
To help dancers stay focused and get the most from class, regular classes are not open for parent observation. You are always welcome to peek through the studio door windows, and families have several opportunities throughout the year to see their dancers perform.
Do dancers perform during the year?
Astra dancers have opportunities to perform throughout the season, including the Winter Holiday Showcase, the Spring Recital, and occasional community events. These performances allow dancers to share what they’ve learned and build confidence on stage.
When are you open?
• Astra Studio's regular season runs September through June, with summer intensives and programs offered in August. We generally follow the Old Saybrook school calendar for major holidays and spring break. Office hours: Monday–Thursday 3:30–8:30 pm. Summer Intensives are in August each year.
