FAQs

What age can my child start dance?
Children can begin dance classes at Astra Studio as early as age 3 through our preschool and early childhood programs. These classes introduce young dancers to movement, music, coordination, and classroom structure in a fun and supportive environment.
Dance is truly for all ages, and it’s never too late to start. Many students begin their dance journey in elementary school or even later and quickly develop confidence, skills, and a love for performing.
Our programs are designed to help dancers grow at every stage, whether they are taking their very first class or continuing their training as they progress.
How much does it cost?
• Tuition is based on an annual rate, charged monthly.
• For the 2025–2026 season, a one-hour class is $71 per month.
• There is an annual registration fee of $45 per student ($60 per family).
• Costumes for the Spring Recital Showcase are additional.
• Winter Holiday Showcase costumes are rented and returned after the performance.
What do I have to wear?
• Ballet Technique class (Thursdays) requires a black leotard and pink tights. Hair must be in a bun.
• Hip Hop classes may wear comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, leggings, or dancewear.
• Other classes may wear leotards, tights, leggings, dance shorts, or close-fitting sports tops.
• Hair should be secured neatly away from the face.
• Jeans and clothing with inappropriate logos are not acceptable.
Where do I find dance shoes?
• Many styles are available through our Parent Portal.
• Local dance stores include:
Dance World – Hamden
Dance Village – Manchester
• Shoes may also be purchased online through DanceWearSolutions or similar dancewear retailers.
Can I sit and watch my dancer in class?
Unfortunately, no. Dancers are often distracted by visitors during class.
However, you are always welcome to peek through the studio door windows.
Dancers will perform for families at the Holiday Showcase, Spring Recital, and other community performances.
Do dancers perform during the year?
Astra dancers have opportunities to perform throughout the season, including the Winter Holiday Showcase, the Spring Recital, and occasional community events. These performances allow dancers to share what they’ve learned and build confidence on stage.

• Astra follows the Old Saybrook school calendar for most holidays and spring break.
